RouterCheck just released a study entitled “The Real State of WiFi Security in the Connected Home” that contains information about network security in the average home. This study is unique and the first of its kind because it is based on data that was gathered over a three month period from real users of the RouterCheck application.
The study may be downloaded from here.
Highlights of the study include:
- 85% of the home networks tested had at least one vulnerability
- 1.8 vulnerabilities were found in the average network
- The majority of vulnerabilities are easily fixed (e.g. poor administrator passwords, open ports, etc.)
Furthermore, we found that using a third-party security testing tool such as RouterCheck was effective in getting users to fix the problems in their networks.
